Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20 1964) was an American lawyer, politician and vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female elected vice president and she also holds the title of most powerful female officer in the history of America. As a part of the Democratic Party, she previously was the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and also as the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She started her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. After that, she was enlisted to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected the city's district attorney. Harris was appointed Attorney General of California in 2010 and re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election making her the second African American woman to serve in the Congress, and the first South Asian American American to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator, she advocated for healthcare reform and federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. National attention was gained for her outspoken questioning of Trump administration officials at Senate hearings. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual misconduct.
